A Lifelong Healer, A New Mission

Dr. John Lieberman is an Infectious Diseases Physician with over two decades of clinical experience. His medical journey has included not only patient care, but also leadership as a hospital medical director, shaping policies on patient safety and quality. But in 2018, something unexpected shifted his path ...

From Healing People to Defending Animals

While searching for a new four-legged companion, Dr. Lieberman came across a disturbing reality. In his effort to adopt a dog, he discovered the world of trophy hunting, the cruelty of animal testing in laboratories, and the systemic abuse inflicted on billions of animals within the food industry.

These weren’t isolated incidents. This was a relentless, hidden, and profit-driven machinery built on exploitation—one that shocked his conscience. It wasn’t just about animal cruelty; it was about injustice. It was about silence. And it was about the most vulnerable beings in society having no voice at all.

A Shift in Passion, A New Purpose

After volunteering with animal welfare organizations and reflecting on his calling, Dr. Lieberman felt compelled to act. Having spent years treating human diseases—including zoonotic illnesses like COVID-19, swine flu, and listeria—he began to see the direct link between public health and how we treat animals.

He made the decision to scale back his medical practice, transitioning to part-time telemedicine and medical expert work. With his heart and mind focused on advocacy, Dr. Lieberman enrolled at Lewis & Clark Law School, pursuing a Master of Studies in Law with a concentration in animal law. He will graduate in December 2025.

A Voice for the Voiceless

Now blending his expertise in medicine, law, and public health, Dr. Lieberman has built a platform to speak up for animals who suffer in silence. He combines scientific insight with legal strategy to advocate for systemic change—whether it's engaging lawmakers, supporting public policy, or educating the public.

He brings to this work:

  • A deep understanding of zoonotic and foodborne illnesses
  • First-hand knowledge of the public health consequences of industrial animal agriculture
  • Legal training focused on animal protections and regulatory frameworks
  • Business experience as a successful small practice owner
  • Unshakable integrity and commitment to justice

Meet Siena (and the Musician Behind the Doctor)

Johnny, as he’s known to friends and family, is also a musician and songwriter. He sings, plays piano, and has recorded two original songs professionally. His rescue dog Siena, a collie mix adopted from a Colorado shelter, has been his loyal companion for the past seven years. Together, they relish long walks, summers in the Pacific Northwest, and the comfort of being together that only a human-animal bond can provide.
